If not, wouldn't it create some confusion during a conversation? No, the pronounciation is the same, but the meaning is different.
Well, sort of different. Ole' grandad goes 'fishing' for dinner... while that internet savvy kid hopes some scammer isn't 'phishing' for his identity.

Phishing is just fishing. As in fishing for a password and getting phished. The Internet savvy kid now would probably have an equally savvy grand pappy.
