Phishing??

There is a thing in my junk mail box in hotmail. It says report a phishing scam or something like that. What does that mean?Phishing??
phishing means a fake site that looks like a real site. These sites try to steal your information like bank accounts, logins, etc...

Depends on what they are spoofing (copying).

if it is an option in your mail, basically it means if you find a scam site (looks like a real site but isnt) you can report it to them and it will be blacklisted if deemed "phishing site". If this was just in a random email; Delete it and dont click on any links.

Many people lose their Identities this way. They can go after anything from your myspace login to bank account logins (like webbanking etc..).

Hope this helps.Phishing??
"Phishing" is where a scam artist posing as a bank will ask you to send them some personal information in order to verify your account, or claim some money. If you send the personal information, the scammer will use it to set up credit accounts in your name, so you get billed for their shopping (a.k.a.: Identity theft).Phishing??
Have you ever got a weird e-mail wanting personal info about bank, etc. Usually it looks like it's from a legit company like Ebay, or your bank or something. Lots of times it's really a fake ebay, or bank site that has been made to steal people's identity. Sending these e-mail out to people like you is called phishing.

For example, I've known people who have gotten an e-mail that said it was from paypal. It would say something like we need you to verify your account, click here to go to our website. When you click there you will be sent to a website that looks very much like the real thing but is not the real thing.

So if you ever get an e-mail like this DON'T go the web site from the e-mail but go to it the way you usually do. Never give out info from a request for it via e-mail or the phone.

If you receive a phone call wanting info such as SSN, etc don't give it. Only if you contact the company do you give out your info.
