What is computer phishing, why is it a problem and how can antivirus sofware help?
phishing is where you got to a site like Google or yahoo for example and in the web browser it say Google and the site look like Google. but there might be a slight off in the in the address bar or it appearance. meaning you at a fake site. use the purpose of such attack. is to obtain your personal info. it a problem because of it current easy and popular to do. expectantly has the economy get worse and worse.
the other problem with phishing attacks is there almost impossible to detected. which why in recent time use security admin had to come up with a very complex way of fixing the problem. which is why you see a color code bar in your address bar now every time you put info in but beyond the color code system which is a stander part of all current browser there is no other defense currently for the average user.

My bank has a practice that will encourage phishing. Where can I report this?
My bank is Wachovia, when they wish to communicate (new online statement available or "secure" message available) they send a message with an embedded link to their login screen. This is EXACTLY what a phishing email would do and it is impossible to tell whether it is the real site or the fake. I have emailed them about it but they continue to send these.

There has to be a banking commission where you reside that issues a Lic. to banks to operate and oversees them, just like insurance companies. Try this avenue also.

Then they will ask for your bank account details saying they want to transfer the money to you. But instead they are clearing out your account
Once they have a copy of your passport or drivers license, if they are overseas they just set up a fake email address using a variation of your name (johnqsmith333@yahoo), email your bank saying they are you stuck overseas in a financial emergency. They "prove" they are you by sending the copy of your passport or drivers license you sent them, give the account number, and have the bank transfer your money to their bank. And once you discover it your bank won't refund you because YOU gave your bank account details and a copy of your ID to another person- you did not protect your privacy
If they are in your country, they can easily make a fake ID in your name but with their picture, walk into any branch of your bank, fill out a withdrawal slip with your name and account number, go up to the teller, show the ID, ask for the balance, then put that amount on the withdrawal slip and empty your account

Phishing attacks trick you into entering your username and password at a fake site that looks like your bank, your broker or employer. It may be an email that says, ”We suspect an unauthorized transaction on your account. To ensure that your account is not compromised, please click the link below and confirm your identity.”
The problem is it looks like it comes from your bank, but in fact the email links to a phony site that is an exact copy maintained by criminals. Once you enter your username and password they have it and can do anything you could do online at the real site. Typically they will route you through to the real site after stealing your password so you do not even suspect anything is amiss.

I only recently opened an account with Bank of America, and ever since I鈥檝e been getting a phishing letter once every couple of days. It actually started happening right after I cashed a bit of money and that surprised me a little, I even thought for a few minutes that it was a real thing.

Just forward them to the fraud department of your bank. The more they get of them, they have a chance to trace the source of them. Even if it's not from your bank, because the banks pool all their information.

I got an email from my dad's hotmail account, although it wasn't from him. It was entitled "emergency" and said he was in South Africa, and had left stuff in a taxi, and could I wire him $2700 (address in Lagos supplied). How did a hoaxer do this? Who should I report it to? Recently I received some emails from what appeared to be my credit card company saying that there had been too many invalid attempts to log into my account and that I needed to log in and change my password. You would also see the difference of the legit site that there is a copyright, company info, privacy policy, and the terms of service in the bottom of the page. As you click it there will open a next window to appear the details or information.
Never trust a phishing site for it will zero your account. If you encounter one report it to the fraud Internet crime or whoever hosted their domain.

It would also not display the be secure site symbol that should appear on your task bar when you visit secure sites.

Also, turn off System Restore to evict any copies of bad stuff that might be lurking there.

1. Log out and reboot your machine.
2. When the machine starts the reboot sequence, press the F8 key repeatedly.
3. Select Safe Mode or Safe Mode with Networking from the resulting menu.
4. Login. If the malware has changed your password, try logging in as Administrator. By default, Administrator has no password.
5. The machine will continue booting, but the Windows desktop will look different.
6. When you're finished doing what you need to do, log out and reboot back into normal mode.

My advice, is that if this isn't your business email, get a second yahoo account. Use your original as one to use for signing up for forums etc. and use your new one for school, family etc.

Now what if I made a totally fake copy of BestBuy.com, where the credit card information just went to me, so I could use it to buy anything I wanted on your money.

Cracking is getting passwords by testing passwords until you get them, you can either use dictionary entries or a brute force method(aaaa, aaab, aaac, aaad ... bcde, bcdf, ...)
Phishing is like... Putting a bomb in a package that somebody is expecting from amazon.

Phishing and hacking are related in that they both are ways of obtaining info whether it being volountary (input on a website) or involountary (where someone has taken over your system to get what they want)

You're being hacked when a hacker has somehow gained access to your computer via internet, obtained personal information, and turned your computer into a zombie system that works to serve his/her needs. I think I got a phishing virus.. how do I disable it from sending emails over & over to my contacts?
I had a customer of mine recently that kept sending the same email over %26amp; over %26amp; over. So I finally clicked on it! I gotthe phishing virus! Is there ANYWAY I can prevent that from happening to all of my contacts? I am a small business owner %26amp; rely on my emailing to do business. What can I do?
